That must’ve been a wild night. The Gaumont is now called The Mayflower and is a lovely red velvet plush seated fancy theatre. Wonder if it was all fancy back then? Probably not after The Who gig 😆

The establishment will never chastise themselves. You could repost this in another 20 years and nothing much will have changed - the haves will still fiercely, brutally guard themselves and their system against the have-nots.

Jay, can you be persuaded to come back to Winchester? It’s been years since your last show here which was a great night. Plus, there are lots of nice places round here to eat and drink inc several interesting new ones since your last visit. Fingers crossed….

It was refreshing to shoot a bona fide master of his craft who had been gigging for 50 years by that time compared to the divas and arseholes in the latest haircut bands who clogged up the pages of the NME.

Of all the artists I photographed, Eddy was easiest to work with. He was very charismatic especially when he broke into a smile. I covered his Glastonbury slot in 08 or 09 or whenever it was and treasure the memory of a really great gig on a sunny afternoon.
