If the above ends up being helpful, there’s a bedtime variation that can help one wind down further:

- touch tip of tongue to upper gumline during the exercise
- exhale step is ~8 seconds instead of 4

Regardless of any particular approach, hope you feel better soon 💜

‘Box breathing’ can help send signals to yr body to de-escalate:
- breathe in through nose for 4 seconds
- hold for 4 seconds
- breathe out for 4 seconds through puckered lips
- hold for 4 seconds
- repeat

Controlling breath through the belly instead of the chest sends similar signals

Glad you’re enjoying them! 5 is definitely my fave overall for story and voice acting/direction.

I always have a laugh at those remarks during Final Option. I can’t help but wonder if Namco did some playtesting after the recordings were done and lowered the skill gate of that particular mission.

I appreciate you giving voice to this observation. I recall a similar remark from a while back about how the early days of Mastodon had a lot more cross-community interactions compared to the archipelago of more-specialized spaces we see today.

NHS has a free 9-week ‘Couch-to-5k’ program:

The site promotes the phone app they made for it, but you can also just grab the mp3 files from the original podcast:

I guess this is all just to say that I think we’d be in a better place if communities with shared special interests were more critical in the literary sense than the ‘someone has to be right and other people have to be wrong‘ sense
September 8, 2025 at 5:59 AM
“Criticism” in the colloquial sense often means something that’s only negative or tearing down, but in the literary sense it’s often more a matter of bringing one’s own perspective to the reading of a work, in the hope of enriching the experience of future readers by broadening horizons

The essayists in Norton Critical Editions of novels usually don’t try to make their point by claiming that their analysis of the story is the only ‘right’ way to interpret a given work of fiction: Each essay’s perspective is just one of several included by the editors.

To be clear, it’s not the ‘groups with common interests’ part that gives me pause. It just that the fan part seems to lead to more divisions and strife than respect.

I think The Beatles said it best: “The love you take is equal to the love you make”

Ah, thank you for the context!

Access, discovery, curation, building and maintaining trust between buyers and sellers, it’s certainly a lot to consider. I do still believe that protocols will win out over platforms, though 💜

I don't think one ever definitively 'finds out'. We all change over time.

Trying a variety of things without expectations can help get a sense of what kind of work is more tolerable.

Be mindful of trying to turn hobbies into careers. Sometimes it works, sometimes it detracts from joy. Good luck! 💜

Yeah, I really want to like it, but Apple can't seem to nail the landing for the software.

(Thanks for the EV roundup, btw! The mini truck and aptera were new to me!)

I spent some time looking into HomeKit Secure Video earlier this year, and the consensus seemed to be that the detection never works reliably, and enabling HSK makes the camera's wifi range and reliability worse than without it enabled.

Valve gives devs an Easy Button of 'pretend that Linux is Windows and we'll handle the compat layer for you', and as much as I want Linux to thrive, I'd be tempted to rely on Proton for a Linux version of any games I make.
December 11, 2024 at 10:35 PM
I do think it's a challenging situation because if a dev tries to support native Linux, they will get additional vocal complaints from people demanding it work with their specific combination of distro, desktop environment with X or Wayland, system configuration, audio stack, libc implementation...
December 11, 2024 at 10:33 PM
IIRC, ever since the Steam Deck release, Valve recommends that devs rely on Proton rather than native ports for Linux compatibility. In the case of Balatro, it runs fine on my Deck and I didn't even realize it wasn't native.
