On this day in 2006, John Jordan "Buck" O'Neil passed away at the age of 94. It's hard to say whether I've ever seen a better ambassador for the sport (especially the Negro Leagues) since I’ve been a fan. Here's a color study of the great man later in life--I wish I could have met him.

Ugh... that's awful. I remember going to a "retirement" reception for an attending who had liver failure to hepatitis B. That physician was in their 40s.

The Great Barrington Dec. aka the “let covid rip” policy, legitimated the death of over a million Americans, is disabling of tens of millions more, & failed to achieve its own instrumental goal, ending the pandemic. It did succeed hwvr in gutting public health & eroding public trust in science
Five years ago today, we authored the Great Barrington Declaration, arguing for focused protection instead of lockdowns. A wholehearted thank you to the almost one million co-signers. We were proven right.

OTD in 1943, the crowd at the opening game of the World Series at Yankee stadium was treated to a group of B-17 bombers buzzing the facility. One of the pilots involved was a Jack Watson of Indianapolis, who later brought his crippled bomber home to England
