Just want to introduce myself: I'm a reporter based in Texas near Austin. I work for the Killeen Daily Herald most days as a city government reporter, but I'm trying to write about state and national issues as well. I'm interested in civil liberties, tech and civil unrest, among other topics.
How are federal cuts impacting governments on the local level? In Killeen, TX, there is confusion and warnings to residents.

This isn't the first time racial remarks were thrown around at Killeen council meetings. So why shouldn't local news report about it?
INSIDE CITY HALL: Allegations of racism not new at Killeen City Hall

This sounds like a poor replacement for human interaction, which is probably what these kids actually need. Human empathy can't be replaced by an unfeeling machine.

To be clear, this was great reporting that had the details if the MOU, but TPM was first to report about DOGE demands for IRS taxpayer data two days before this was out. I would argue that merited a link at least. 🤷‍♂️ 🚨 talkingpointsmemo.com/news/doge-ir...

Holy shit, Elon has walked cyber criminals right into the key government IT system, had lied about who they are, and put each of those systems at risk.

They all need to be shut out, and held until background checks are competed, and IT system they touched sanitized and replaced.

WTF?!?!

Even if the traits smart, intelligent and witty accurately describe Elon Musk, which they don't, none of those things are the traits of a decent human being.

Being intelligent does little for the world if it's self-serving.
Kindness and empathy are far more important.

It genuinely doesn't make any sense that Democrats would align itself with Republicans to ban TikTok, something only 32% of Americans support, and then allow Trump to swoop in and act like a hero to save the platform from censorship. Either Democrats are idiots or purposefully tanking themselves.

I'm told TikTok's host (Oracle) and CDN (Akamai) brought it back online today because Trump assured them they'd not be subject to penalties - something he can't entirely promise.

Whatever one's feelings on the ban's merit, they're defying federal law based on a not-yet-president's word. Huge gamble

TikTok is back. Wow, that was quick. What on earth did the TikTok owner have to agree to on the eve of Trump's inauguration in order to make that happen?

The TikTok ban is more depressing than people realize, especially when trying to explain its significance to baby boomers who think the entire sum of its existence is stupid challenge videos from Gen Z.

Banning TikTok is a blatant violation of the first amendment. Anybody who supports it should hang their heads in shame. This country has long been an oligarchy but it's starting to look a lot more obvious.
