The lesson I've learned over the years is that an actor willing to look uncool, play 2nd fiddle, or get their ass kicked by the lead is the actor you want to work with over and over again. That selflessness always leads to making the movie better, which is the real point - not looking the coolest.

I was deemed "essential" when I worked at a Kroger store during COVID. I even got a raise of "hero pay" for coming in to work. It lasted only for 2 months before I had to go back to my old wages. It went by pretty fast due to being paid weekly. Plus, I only got a $100 for getting the vaccine!
