ProPublica obtained records from the USDA of each planned delivery in 2025, detailing the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached hungry people because of the administration’s cut.

An illustration of a ten-lane wide traffic jam of white delivery trucks is seen from above. One in the center is highlighted: 2,300 gallons of 2% milk for the Heart of Alabama Food Bank. It was one of 23 deliveries for that food bank that were canceled.

The administration wouldn’t tell @propublica.org — or anyone — who has been cut from federal health agencies.

That’s fine. We’ve been analyzing their directories since Jan.

Turns out, we’ve lost thousands of scientists, regulators and other crucial roles.

*Huge* new feature in Datawrapper! You can now create locator maps using the globe (aka orthographic) projection. Makes small scale maps so much better compared to the Mercator projection! All thanks to the amazing folks at @datawrapper.de and @maplibre.org ❤️

Far from the most pressing issue right now, but it's disappointing that OPM has put their data dictionaries behind a gov login wall. There was nothing confidential in it, and it was super useful for working with gov HR data. cc: @digiphile.bsky.social @jacobharr.is

Pope Francis, 88, lived to be the second-oldest pontiff in modern history. www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/0...
A chart starting from the 15th century and going to present shows vertical lines representing the age of each pope during their papacy, each ending at their death, or in two cases, resignation. Francis, at the far right, is highlighted as the second-oldest pope in the time period.

Judge Boasberg finds probable cause for contempt of court (!) in flight deportations case, citing in part a Washington Post graphic I made outlining the timing of flights and his orders. Very cool to see this impact. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
It was. Although the Government has refused to provide the particular details, all evidence suggests that during the short window that the Court was adjourned, two removal flights took off from Harlingen — one around 5:25 p.m. and the other at about 5:45 p.m. See ECF No. 21 (Resp. to Mar. 16 Notice) at 3–4 (relying on flight-tracking data for GlobalX Flights 6143, 6145, and 6122); see also Marianne LeVine et al., White House Official Says 137 Immigrants Deported Under Alien Enemies Act, Wash.
