And the other thing is through immigration there are now Italian-American, Italian-Argentine, etc. cuisines that evolved into their own things but also claim to be authentically "Italian" which I can see getting Italian food purists miffed.

Look at Tarantino, he's been remaking the same 1970s ripoff movies since Kill Bill. He's good at it, but no real growth as a writer/director. I do recognize that there is a film bro cult around Anderson and I will say that Licorice Pizza is one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Finally, I guess the US has returned to the neocon foreign policy of the early 2000s. I've seen this movie before and it's disastrous.

For a guy who ran twice on ending foreign military entanglements, Trump has gone in the opposite direction. Then again, the man's a liar.

The capture of Maduro and use of US military force down in the Caribbean was done without the authorization of congress. We had no national debate of getting involved down there. None.

What will be the international repercussions of removing Maduro from power? In the short-term, probably not much. In the longer-term, other countries can make an the same arguments to remove leaders of neighboring countries.

Who will be the country's new leadership? Will the leadership create stability? Is there going to be a need for US boots on the ground?

This is what happened to the Orange County Government Center in New York.

If the building was a neoclassical structure then they’d spend the money to repair because it’s considered “graceful” and “proper” while brutalist buildings are considered “ugly” and “cold.”

I imagine the following scenario will play out. Dallas gets the price of what a city hall renovation will be and baulk at the cost and then tear it down and build a new one.

Unfortunately, I think we’re heading there in the next year or two. The question is what kind of recession it will be.
December 26, 2025 at 3:02 PM
There’s that too. When the music stops, the wealthy will have made themselves richer and everyday folks who invested their retirements into this bubble will get screwed.

And TBH, I don’t think we’re at a point as a nation to take on that approach on because it would addressing failures in housing, education, healthcare, social services, wealth distribution, and so on.

Also, subsidizing sport stadiums is one of the most wasteful examples of corporate welfare.
