I love dogs and nature. 💙💛
That used to be one of my favorite candies. Haven't had one in years. Think I might get one next time I'm at the grocery.

Yeah, they gave up way too quickly. Of course it was going to take awhile. The GOP is stubborn ah. All they've accomplished is demonstrate that if you just hold out a bit the Dems will capitulate.

Finally I could qualify for Canadian citizenship.

I'm so tired of their bs. All they care about is their corporate donors. They do not listen to ordinary voters one bit. I really wish there was a viable, reasonable third party I could vote for bc I really want to vote for someone else but I wouldn't vote for the GOP if my life depended on it.

As I'm fond of saying, kindness is its own reward. If you're only a good person because you expect some divine reward or fear some punishment, you're not a good person.

Damn, I did not know the Great Lakes were so treacherous. I was aware of the Edmund Fitz thanks to Great Lakes Brewing Co. but I did not know about the other 6,000. So sick of the GOP using the deficit as an excuse to pick off small agencies. NOAA's 2025 budget $6.6B. That's a drop in the bucket.

It's always nice when you meet your heroes and they actually live up to your expectations

Most shopping malls are falling apart these days. The only one I'm aware of that's still thriving is the Pentagon City Mall in Arlington, VA and they have criminal incidents happen there all the time. I wouldn't call it a dangerous area, but it's definitely the most dangerous in South Arlington.

Well who could have guessed there'd be another Bond movie. There have only been like 20 of them.

You gotta hand it to China. If you'd asked me 20 years who would be a future leader in renewables I never would have guessed China. Yeah, they're still the world's biggest polluter but they've got a ton of people, are still developing and are making a serious effort to reduce emissions.

Yeah, I'm from Northern California and that's probably my biggest complaint about California. It's so unfriendly to pedestrians. They didn't even have sidewalks in the neighborhood I grew up in. Once you get a taste for walkability, you really don't want to move back to a car dependent place.
November 11, 2025 at 1:11 PM
Trams honestly kind of suck. They're really no faster than a car because they're subject to traffic. A proper subway becomes the fastest way to get around town at rush hour.

I know this is just PNW, but it would really revolutionize the West Coast if they put in high speed rail from Seattle, to Portland, to SF, to LA to San Diego. It's a good distance for high speed rail. Short flights but long drives.

Damn that is truly a shitload of cyclists. I thought the bike trail by my apartment got crowded but it's nothing like that.

If I could pick my next country to be born into it would be the Netherlands. They're so damn sensible. Everything there makes so much sense and is so well thought out. They don't waste a mg of space either. I still remember the farms outside Amsterdam. Every little nook and cranny had a purpose.

Some drivers are absolutely insane. I've seen multiple drivers around where I live watching TV on their damn phones while driving on the freeway.
November 11, 2025 at 12:58 PM
I started after I messed up my foot and couldn't run anymore. Wish I'd started earlier. It's so much more fun than running, you can cover huge distances and I think it's a better workout. Much more intervalish than running. You go real hard for a couple minutes and then coast a bit.

Massholes will be Massholes. I liked Boston in a lot of ways, but I left because my California ass just couldn't take New Englanders. They're so gruff and blunt and just generally unfriendly.

Discounts on parking? Are you saying you have to pay to park a bike in Portland?
November 11, 2025 at 12:41 PM
In DC we have purpose built docking stations for all the hire bikes. They used to have a lot dockless bikes, but they got rid of them. At first I thought the dock was a disadvantage bc you can't just park anywhere, but over time I've come to see that it makes a lot more sense and keeps things neater

When I was in Italy it really took some getting used to how they cross streets. You basically just walk across wherever and trust that the cars will stop for you. They always did, but man that's putting a lot of faith in drivers.
November 11, 2025 at 12:36 PM
How the hell is that even possible? 128 times. You'd think you'd just pass by accident one of those times.
November 11, 2025 at 12:34 PM
Feel for you guys. That sucks. I had to do that shit for 3 months when the DC Metro did SafeTrack improvements. On the plus side, the Metro has been really reliable since they did that. Almost never see single tracking anymore. But damn do the buses add so much time to your commute.
November 11, 2025 at 12:33 PM
There's a point though where you take so little risk that it actually becomes a risk. My mom seriously drives like 20 under the limit on the freeway. It's honestly scary having all the cars fly by you at like 20-30 mph faster than you're going. Going with the flow is the safest thing in my book.

If pickleball noise is the biggest issue in your life you have no real problems. Seriously, how loud could it really be? People occasionally yelling with joy because they made a hard shot?
