My husband and I just celebrated 22 years together, which is longer than both of Nigel Farage's mixed-sex marriages combined.

Nigel Farage:

"Children who have two stable parents have a better chance in life... The most stable relationships, the ones that last the longest, tend to be between men & women... There's an awful lot of kids in the country not getting the kind of start... they deserve."

Farage has two ex-wives.

As it's in the news again - this is the post I wrote a few months ago on why the disability benefits bill has been going up.

Essentially, you can't remove need by removing support - it just pops up as a cost somewhere else.

🗞️ In a new blog, Dr David Bell explains how changes to the UK Treasury’s Green Book could shift investment away from the South-East by focusing more on regional needs. This could impact how projects are funded across the UK, including in Scotland.

i agree - i’m arguing for a review of fiscal framework not arguing for fiscal autonomy
kezdugdale.bsky.social
It's a brutal indictment of the current devolution settlement for sure... Fiscal Framework in urgent need of review. But not sure i follow the part about Scotland's place in UK?

All legit policy choices but wish we were having a proper debate about the size of these gaps rather than pretending the problems we are stacking up can be “McDoged” or met through efficiencies…
kezdugdale.bsky.social
… And so it follows that with greater demand, more generous criteria + new benefits, the gap in Scotland’s social security budget is set to grow. So costs need to be met from other depts. Table from Scottish fiscal commission
This table from Scottish fiscal commission sites a £1billon gap between what scotland spends has to spend on social security and what it needs to meet commitments made in 2025s Gap grows to 2.1 billion by 2030
kezdugdale.bsky.social
The debacle of the winter fuel payment is a fascinating case study of devolution. In making this promise today, the FM will need to spend more than he’s got for this devolved benefit and therefore have to take from elsewhere to meet the commitment…

Scotland's set for one of the world's most disproportionate legislatures thanks to the constitutional divide, fragmenting party system, and lopsided electoral system that fails to incentivise good governance.

Is it time for Holyrood electoral reform?
