Science, History, Speculative Fiction, Books, Seattle sports. Working on my first novel.

37 year streak of not accidently doing a Nazi salute.
Support science and you'll never lose me as a fan of your politics. The defunding of science under this admin is one of the most inimical things they've done.

Kidnappings by masked agents is much more headline grabbing (and very important to pay attention to!) but the damage to science is huge.

Got my first one, the actual procedure is nothing but the prep sucks. Got a clean bill of health & don't have to get another for 5-10 years.

Watch the FTC find a reason why this bid isn't viable because of monopoly reasons but Ellison's bid is fine.

Did not know he was born in Libya, the for the info

It feels cool to use, so surely you're faster, so you tell your boss it's great & all silicon valley culture & VC capital becomes "one more data center" because the capital simply isn't smart enough to realize we've basically scraped everything & it isn't quit enough. The irony is that it's close

The METR study showed (against their own intuition) using AI slows productivity by about 20%. Also an interesting data point was that almost everyone using it thought they were faster, when they were actually 19% slower. So you can kinda see how this got out of hand in a feedback loop of dumbassery.

It can do a few things well & won't totally go away but the idea that this thing that's wrong like 5-10% of the time (often in subtle ways that require expertise to recognize) is going to replace huge fractions of the labor force at negative inference costs is crazy. Sunk cost fallacy going hard rn
December 5, 2025 at 3:25 AM
It's clear AI failed at their claims. It's decent for programming and a few other things. If these guys were good engineers who knew their linear algebra they'd realized it can't deliver on the investment cost. It's about capped out at how good it will get & it's wrong A LOT. Making it useless.

Philip the Arab?

In the script it says something like '"I'm a cop" Mr White Smiles & Pulls the trigger.' He definitely shoots Mr. Orange.

Maybe before Bill Browder & the Magnitsky act stuff there would have been a few. No competent security team in the world would let you do business there after that. 'They'll use tax law to steal $230 million dollars then kill your lawyer for figuring out it's happening' is a non-starter.
December 4, 2025 at 11:31 PM
Literally every security department in every major company would rule this out immediately. And it's not even the war or fear of drone strikes. It's the fact that every once in a while some official will decide to steal your money mafia style using Russian security forces.

Yeeesss. Medieval 2 was the best installment after Rome 1.

MAGA going through a full on fist fight to determine the successor. This is Kelly's version of Hegseth saying 'I support the admiral but had nothing to do with it'
December 4, 2025 at 4:15 PM
We need to realize that this is a thing that was *done* to us. Corporate media is incredibly biased for the wannabe dictator. And republicans have spent years gutting education. The stupidification of America is by design.

I listened to the interview but I hadn't seen any video - the cheap tik tok filter on Nuzzi makes this a hundred times worse. Absolute narcissist.

I think the wealth gap got so insane because of neocon/lib policy that the poors became utterly exploitable, then rich white dudes convinced them it was the immigrants.

I've been following polymarket for a while now just for kicks because it hilarious how wrong that shit is all the time.
December 4, 2025 at 3:01 AM
I can't wait to get a Panama papers style drop about all the dudes in positions of power at companies, congress, etc who were making real decisions & profiting off of it using a dumb fucking app.
December 4, 2025 at 2:43 AM
You can see the danger there. House members are almost certainly going to make a bunch of money by defecting on a bill they know will pass after, placing a huge huge bet on themselves defecting.

Money in politics needs to be abolished. I propose we put it in the constitution of the 2nd republic.
December 3, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Kalshi is a gambling app where you can bet on almost anything. Like... I don't think you can directly bet on whether a particular political figure will be assassinated but you can find ways around it.

You can bet on whether any particular congress person will vote a certain way on any obscure bill

All these billionaires openly talk about how they need a police state and AI monitoring to keep the population under control because they know their end-goal, techno-feudalism, is going to be unpalatable.
December 3, 2025 at 11:28 PM
If it happened literally 12 months ago it would have been made into a huge scandal.

Corporate media loves Trump, has no morals, and wants him to be king.
December 3, 2025 at 9:13 PM
It's been said endlessly but the media is such a failed "institution." It's not even that they're cowards (they are) but they want to be close to the circles of power so badly they will humiliate themselves to do so. Just debate themselves. So they can sit @ a dinner party & say "I talked to Trump"
