I’m Kamden. I’m a fisheries biologist in Minnesota. I primarily work in fisheries management, including stocking and population monitoring. I also conduct research on population dynamics and trophic ecology, or as I like to call it, #fishpuke!

Have you ever seen a baby gar eating?

This little Spotted Gar is about a week old and has started feeding on zooplankton (in this case brine shrimp/Artemia/ aka "sea monkeys").

Hey! QUICK! Scientists/Science communicators of all kinds.

Have you taken anything you've learned from my incessant yapping about my Philly science engagement work & made your own version? Made your own zine, made your own posters, stickers, events, anything?

I would love to hear about it if so!

Hey, you!

Do you know any teachers, librarians, scout troop leaders, or other k-12 educators?

Please send them this picture & link www.skypeascientist.com/sign-up.html

For what Skype a Scientist lacks in advertising budget we make up for in program value.

We're GLOBAL so this applies to all 😘
A purple and red octopus talk to each other on the tin can telephone. Purple octopus says “want to connect your students with real
Scientists?” Then red octopus says “Skype a scientist matches groups with scientists for virtual q&as. It’s free!” And then an orange flapjack octopus says “get a match at skypeascientist.com”

“Fish” can refer to a single individual, or multiple individuals from the same species.

“Fishes” refers to multiple species.

Bloodsucking parasite, but it’s a native fish!

Check out this native lamprey (compared to invasive Sea Lamprey) on a Northern Pike in a Minnesota River.

Parasitic lamprey species attached to hosts, rasp a hole and suck blood (but native species don’t typically cause death). Both fishes released!

Please consider the opportunity to comment on the proposal to rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule. Roadless areas conserve cold, clean headwaters and provide habitat for native fish. The public comment period is open through Friday, Sept 19. Learn more: www.trcp.org/2025/09/12/w...

I'm compiling a list of resources for grad students in the sciences!

What are some free/cheap online tools for learning a new skill or concept?

The ones I've advised my students to use are ConservationTraining .org, the UNFAO Academy, and DataCamp. What else is out there?

Any tips welcome! 🧪
