The deacon watched as the priest dipped his thumb into the bowl of #ashes and then made an #ash cross on a parishioners forehead.

"You'll get your revenge soon," the deacon whispered.

He was talking to the spirit of his dead wife, whose ashes were in the bowl the priest was using. #vss365

"You explode when you die?" the girl asked.

"We do," the fairy guide confirmed.

Roadkill is out in the world. I can't in good conscience recommend it to all readers. A sad and angry book. 90% of the animal characters are dead at the outset & the humans don't fare much better. But if you're in the mood for an unconventional eco-horror experience, links in comments!

"He's out back," she replied.

The officer left and then returned a few minutes later, "I didn't see him."

"Did you see the pile of wood #pulp?" she asked.

"I did."

A figure appeared in the distance, but as it got closer it began to waver and then disappeared.

"Just another mirage," the water nymph sighed, "I should have left with the others before this became an #oasis," she lamented.
