I fully understand how difficult it is to remain focused on any one particular atrocity but this really ought to be a serious scandal and people need to pay heavy prices for this

Don’t worry, once we’ve helped them come for immigrants and trans people, they’re sure to be appeased and dedicated to solidarity in our great big tent and not come after anyone else, as history teaches

You should read the whole piece from @edzitron.com but if you only read one paragraph, make it this one: OpenAI has burned so much money that there is no more money.

Read that again: it's not just OpenAI that's broke. All of VC is broke.

www.wheresyoured.at/the-case-aga...
Venture Capital Will Run Out At The Current Rate of Investment In Six Quarters, And OpenAI Needs More Investment Than Ever: The Information recently published some worrying data from venture capitalist Jon Sakoda — that “at today’s clip, the industry would run out of money in six quarters,” adding that the money wouldn’t run out until the end of 2028 if it wasn’t for Anthropic and OpenAI. In a very real sense, OpenAI threatens the future of available capital for the tech industry.

In a rare move, members of the press have organized a rally in protest against rising repression following the arrest of *yet another* NY-based photojournalist for documenting the aftermath of a protest event.

As of now, all are released and in the process of picking up the pieces of their lives.

2 others who were arrested were also raided, one of whom had to spend the night in central bookings until this morning to be arraigned and released. My understanding is neither of them are members of the press, and their charges are lesser.

This is the second credentialed press person to be raided & arrested & charged with hate crimes for documenting protest activity in NYC. The first was a little over a year ago. That case is still ongoing.

The photojournalist spent nearly 24 hours detained, their home turned upside down, their family and friends terrified, for documenting the aftermath of explicit protest activity on a public sidewalk.

NYPD also seized the camera equipment of another photographer who was with the photojournalist at the time of the predawn raid, despite being totally irrelevant to their “investigation.” NYPD shoved & briefly detained that photographer, as well.

Manhattan DA changed NYPD charges to aggravated harassment w/hate crime enhancement—for documenting an incident on a public street.

NYPD also arrested 2 other individuals whose charges were only criminal mischief 2nd. No hate crime enhancement.

Would any of us do better? Would we? Yes. Yes, we would. We would *all* do better than this.

tuckermaymysteries My name is Tucker May. In April I married the love of my life, Barbara Marques. Right now I fear for her life.

A week and a half ago she was taken by ICE at our properly scheduled green card meeting at the Federal Building downtown. At the end of what we were told was a successful meeting, the officer used the excuse of a broken copier to trick her into walking away from our lawyer. Once separated from her legal counsel, she was arrested. The reason for her detention was a missed court date from 2019 which my wife was never notified about.

We have been working with lawyers since that time to correct the situation. The Adelanto detention center has actively been keeping my wife from correspondence with her lawyer by delaying in giving her documents that were mailed to the facility.

Last night, she was taken from the Adelanto facility to an undisclosed destination despite our lawyer having filed a temporary restraining order to stop this from happening. They could be sending her anywhere in the world and we have no way of knowing.

I'm asking for help in bringing to the attention of media and authorities these multiple lapses in due process and proper procedure through the unwarranted deportation of a woman whose legal marriage has been duly recognized as legitimate by immigration through the 1130 petition process.

Please, if you have any contacts who could help, send them this information.

Disabled people are particularly vulnerable to abuse under fascism.

ICE has been neglecting the medical needs of detainees.

One disabled immigrant, Rodney Taylor, needs our help.

He's a double amputee who's been in the country since he was two years old. He's being held in solitary:
Help Rodney Taylor, a Disabled Double Amputee Being Held by ICE
Rodney has been in the country more than 40 years. He's in solitary confinement in Georgia, being denied disability accommodations and having his medical needs ignored. He must be released.

Mr. Ramirez, who was working LEGALLY at the factory, has U.S. citizen children and a wife here. He repeatedly asked to call his lawyer. DHS refused him at every turn, and threw him on a plane to Guatemala within 72 hours.

DHS claims he waived a right to a hearing. He says that they're lying.

‘I did not sign anything’
After Ramirez Perez was taken from the factory in Cato, he was taken to the Border Patrol Station in Oswego.

“We were there all day without even eating anything, not even water,” he said.

That evening they were moved from Oswego to the Batavia detention center and got there around 10 p.m., Ramirez Perez said.

“We were there only for the night because the next morning, they took us to the airport and then flew us to Texas,” he said.

At the McAllen facility, Ramirez Perez said he was given some food for the first time in two days, but they had to sleep on the floor using sleeping bags. He kept asking the agents for the opportunity to talk to his lawyer. They denied him, however, saying that it was the weekend. He would need to wait until Monday, they said.

He was deported before Monday came.

“In the meantime, they woke me up at 1 a.m. on Sunday and they said that I needed to leave, that they were going to take me to Guatemala,” Ramirez Perez said.
