I’m still a sucker for great surface design, and admire those who excel at it.
But, over the long haul, a designer’s job is to discover what’s needed, align colleagues and stakeholders, and make it work. (2/2)

Why are work systems for employees in public services so bad, e.g. in health- or other welfare services?
This has a detrimental effect on people who depend on public services, and who may already be vulnerable.
We need to do better.

aksel.nav.no is the open source #designsystem developed by the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration.
There is a lot of effort put into making Aksel's 40+ components accessible, and flexible. And there are >910 open-source icons.
Yes, everything is in Norwegian. But it is #opensource!

• Think in product outcomes
• Have a keen eye for design
• Love experimenting until we find the perfect solution
True partnership in product development is when engineering & design push each other to be better. Grateful for my team! ✨

"Thinking outside the box" is often associated with being creative and innovative.
Comparatively easy to be creative with few boundaries and a new system (no box).
Continuous improvement requires true creativity to innovate "within the box". Lots of boundaries.

I upholstered an old chair, and covered it with a cow skin print fabric. My Basset hound looks worried.

But it wasn’t a product conference.
Or a design conference.
It was a marketing conference.
It turns out we are all the same. With the same frustrations.
I’m so over the role territory battles. How about we just start working together?
