"Human" isn't even a good shape for most tasks we'd like to offload. And I do not want a machine that does all tasks poorly. I want a machine that does one task well.

Not bad math related: The idea that we're all going to buy a humanoid robot is so weird to me. We live in a car-centric society; if we didn't, I probably wouldn't have a car. I have one because I need one, not because I want one. There's literally no reason I'd need or want a humanoid robot.

Meanwhile, there's been a documented rise in cosmetic surgeries among young teens that has gone largely under the radar because of the focus on surgeries that basically aren't happening.

I keep saying this, but I had gender-affirming surgery as a cis girl when I was 14 and still growing. I had a nose job and my surgeon framed my need for it as in part because my nose was too "masculine." People might have privately objected, but there was no political outcry.

Seriously, the way I got into knitting was because when I was learning, my need to count stitches interrupted my panic attacks. It's so important to give people in traumatic and stressful situations access to arts and crafts. I'm going to check my stash in a bit.

This! I was assaulted at a required medical exam for girls’ sports. That is, we now know, disturbingly common. The ideas now in play require MORE, and more invasive, medical exams.

I say no very firmly every time and they’re always surprised, which feels kind of weird, too.

That's fair, although I offer a little more leeway on podcasts depending on the context. A lot are now professionally produced, but some are still pretty scrappy.

ALWAYS BLAME BRANWELL

Welp, I guess I was doing a particularly tedious and useless exercise, then!

Verbal clutter is actually important and useful! Not in every instance, but it's a way we as speakers take a moment to take stock and think and it also signals to the listener that what follows will be in some way important. It can be irritating, but it's not inherently bad.

OH MY GOD

When I bought myself a copy of WH as a teenager, the copy I got came bound with Jane Eyre and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, so the commentary on alcohol was very much at the surface.

Heathcliff doesn’t drink. And Heathcliff gets shit done while Hindley sits around and talks about how he’s going to do things that he never does. Hindley, who is horrible before and during his one happy relationship, gets much, much worse when it ends.
