Software engineer, fiber artist, reader, enthusiastic appreciator of interesting details. I like understanding systems and stories. she/her is fine.
Textile nerds group? Is this a group that is open to members of the public? It sounds very interesting.

I think people associate them with kids / teens / young adults, so many people older than that subconsciously avoid them as immature.

It's a shame. Air travel often involves hurrying through crowds on foot. Backpacks are often an easier form factor for that than looser luggage.

We don't have to accept mass shootings, or cop shootings of unarmed Black men and boys, or high homicide rates, or high suicide rates. We could choose to not live like this at any time.

But we won't.

Because doing so would require rejecting the racism that is so central to the US identity.

it's not just that I find it chilling to imagine Sam Altman wearing my dead mom's face in order to sell me ads

it's that the way we ACTUALLY keep our lost loved ones alive requires a myriad of human skills these assholes perpetually devalue, like storytelling and deep emotional connection

Anyway: If this year has taught you anything, I hope it's that white supremacy is fake as hell, fails without support, and requires extensive enforcement and blatant acts of favoritism and exclusion to survive.

All-white/white supremacist spaces, political, social, and professional, are a choice.
