Still do this. As kids we used to respond with 'Pinch and a kick for being so quick', then 'Pinch and a blow for being so slow'. (The response always felt a bit like sore loser vibes tho).

Always been slightly apprehensive of grandfather clocks in case they suddenly stop ticking. (Or chime 13 times at night)

It could be atmospherics and what not, but this time of year they might just feel the approaching time change and the repeated winter hour. They're a month early but just trying to prepare.

A shame, one of my faves as well. You will have to make do with Cromer Pier (used in The Flesh and Blood Show)

Late afternoon stroll along Derwent Water. Found a hollow tree striking a disco pose. Or waving for help. The water was barely ankle-deep, so it's probably fine...

Some 16th-century ballads to pen?

Manipulus Vocabulorum is a rhyming dictionary from 1570, thought to be the first ever: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/manipulus-vocabulorum-a-rhyming-dictionary-from-the-16th-century

In some parts you might be ok up until Michaelmas, and in the outer reaches they may push it until Old Michaelmas.

I wonder if the strawberry cream tea lore is akin to the devil spitting on blackberries in September/ Michaelmas.

Considering the impact the waves of plague must have had across the centuries it's surprising how few, if any, fairy stories/folk tales there are of such in England. (There seem to be some on the continent & Scotland). Is this just down to the story collectors?

I love looking round old churches, until the overwhelming hierarchy, even in death, eventually p's me off.

For me it 404s. Academia page saying 'Oops! It looks like you're in the wrong aisle."

Only just realised: Transylvania means 'beyond the woods'. It's like having had a blind spot and suddenly noticing the rabbit after decades of only seeing a duck.

This could just be the devil of Chanctonbury rings. If you run round that seven times he will appear and give you soup. Now we know where he gets it from.

Avebury cove, one of the stones has a small circular impression in the centre of a larger circular shape. A natural cup and ring mark? (I've been here so many times & had never even noticed this before - Avebury keeps on giving.) #standingstonesunday

Haven't believed a word Nick Robinson says since he reported a self-depricating joke by Alex Salmond as the real thing. Imo he's heard what happens before truth gets it's boots on and wants some of that.

Summer haunting: Ice cream van chimes echoing through suburban streets, powered by the strong wishes of children. No ice cream van, just the chimes.
