Scenes from lovely Lisbon, Belém, and Sintra. In the last picture, you can see the center of Sintra in the far background. Yes, we hiked all the way up. And carrying a baby to boot!

These numbers! Wow, this is such a complete failure and abdication of responsibility by OpenAI.

Obscure nerd gripe:

For every C function, GNU style puts a space between the function name and the open parenthesis. clang-format does this correctly...unless the function is named "export". It removes the space that was there! WHY?!?

(diff output: + is original, - is clang-format)

This quote sums it up for me. I’ve been teaching for almost 20 years, attending and leading workshops on evidence-based active learning, researching and honing effective practices. And LLMs completely undermine the desirable difficulties I’ve devoted my career to constructing.

This is one of the clearest and saddest explanations of the evolution of American politics I've observed over the past 30-40 years. There's so much in it, but this highlighted passage is perhaps my favorite. The modern GOP is based on the Confederacy, not the Declaration and Constitution.

I'm sorry, but lol. As with so many "anti-woke" moderates, McArdle conveniently forgets that the world existed before 2016. Attacks on the humanities, budget cuts, neo-creationism ("evolution is just a theory"), etc., go back decades. The silence of moderates during that time was deafening.

This guy can just go rot. It's not counterintuitive. We know and we've known for years. Democrats are expected to be the grown-ups in the room. It's a BS cop-out.

Don't want to waste time criticizing Trump? Fine. So go after his Republican enablers. Hound every single one of them.

Pathetic.

It really is truly here and available. No longer a preliminary edition…an actual published book. It’s only been in progress since SIGCSE 2018! I can’t even begin to describe how happy it makes me to hold this book!

The character, not the actor. It also doesn’t help that my middle name is Scott.

Oh, um. Wow. I'll be sure to keep any plagiarism I commit to less than 15% of my work. 🤣
