I believe we need to be able to understand what is happening to us. That's the sole reason for my work on knowledge ecosystems over the years, including Covid Tracking Project. A lot of things *can* be known, even in this political blender. We deserve real knowledge, not close-enough flyby guessing.

The (moving, sometimes obscure) line between those two things is the thing I‘m watching most closely and this is something the national press has mostly been pretty bad at dealing with.

For me, at least, it’s useful to separate presidential speech that is actually connected to some kind of handle or mechanism from presidential speech that is still 95% worldbuilding. They’re both very dangerous, but in genuinely different ways, at this point.

Yeah there are technical reasons data hosts have that stuff in there but I never remember the details. I just try to go with people I trust based on behavior to date and hope for the best.

I am so relieved to hear that emails actually arrived! Ghost had to go handle some inexplicable delivery things this summer and they were v nice about it but I wasn’t sure it had worked.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

Yes! Check out that docs link I posted, Blacksky.app handles are for Black people but they made a couple of options for the rest of us to be on the infrastructure in solidarity.

In slow motion, bet yeah. Silent leak > trashed subfloor > the whole floor and most of what was on it had to go. It took five months to have a working kitchen again!
