But I also know that such changes are possible, with new tools, perspectives and approaches such as those we are advocating in Pathways2Resilience, which encourage consideration of existing power structures and dynamics.

Ten years on from starting Climate Ready Clyde, and five years after approving what we hoped was a transformational adaptation strategy and action plan for Glasgow City Region, I identify with lots of what's raised here, and the challenges of leveraging deeper change in the system.

Over breakfast, I began to read 'Sink or Swim' - the excellent new book by @susannahfisher.bsky.social. I only read the prologue but I'm so excited. It's unpicking lots of the challenging questions that are at the heart of transformational adaptation, and the tradeoffs with incremental approaches.

Vivian Depoues from @i4ce.bsky.social showcasing how collaborative work with the French Government where they set a warming trajectory (4 degrees) has been helpful to stimulate discussion on the costs of adaptation #ECCA2025

Paul outlining some of the work costing the UK's adaptation plan, as well as some of the learning. Existing costs are around 1% of public budgets. They show how we will have high costs to deal with existing stock, and that we will have to innovate to get better cost data.

I need to get back to posting on here - I miss Bluesky! So here's a lovely piece from UNEP on picture based insurance to help reduce costs and increase coverage, which Sumalee Khosla at @unep.org has been helping on. unepccc.org/innovative-p...

Yes it is a recruitment pathway but it also provides so many great life skills, opportunities and experiences for young people, particularly in poorer areas! I'm proud to have been a cadet and an NCO as an adult. Although I'm in Scouts now, there's definitely space for both!

Yeah, and it reduces the idea down to a series of steps that are repeatable, whereas having done it in practice it's more typically about finding entry points in the current system...

I think it's fine for the use it's for! But if you are trying to explain to others, it's not great! Do you like it?

Just so awful. We need to be much clearer about what it actually means, with examples. See for example:

Nothing like refreshing your Household Emergency Plan on a Saturday morning. If you don't have one, it's well worth it - template available here: prepare.campaign.gov.uk/wp-content/u...

I do worry about how far we've stepped back from real community resilience. I think Finland and Sweden have just updated and republished their civil disaster plans - hopefully ours is coming soon?

And this is *within Europe* - the labour market impacts could be big. So even more of a mandate from citizens to work on adaptation. 👥

What about the UK? Sadly we don't know, given we left and are no longer part of the sample, but I suspect we would have similar results. 3/3

As you'd expect, results are higher in southern Europe. Sadly, respondents think the impacts might be profound:

➡️ 72% recognise they will need to adapt.
➡️ 1 in 3 think they will have to move to a less climate vulnerable place
➡️ 1 in 4 say they will have to move to a cooler region.

Interesting news from Europe on public support for adaptation.

📝 The new EIB climate survey shows that:

➡️ 94% of citizens support adaptation measures,
➡️ 50% consider adaptation a priority for their country in the years ahead
➡️ 86% recognise its potential to boost the economy and create jobs.

Couldn't sleep properly, so went for a 5am moonlit walk with the dog. It was fabulous! So dark and crisp. When we got back, she went back to bed. Me on the other hand ended up having to crack on with the day. #zzzzzz

Getting the birdfeeders topped up ready for winter. Doing our bit to keep the birds happy. I've already seen a blue tit having a much but I wasn't quick enough for a snap! #nature #birds
