NO LOYALTY OATHS IN HIGHER ED!

Trump's attacks on our universities are an attempt to consolidate power. This loyalty oath directly undermines our right to academic freedom & goes against every democratic principle our country should uphold.

University Administrations: Reject Trump's "Loyalty Oath" Compacts
The Trump administration is trying to blackmail schools to let him and his unqualified bureaucrats run our schools. They want to dictate what schools teach, who they admit and hire, what researchers s...

I think ALIMS is the most public version of that data and it’s state by state.

I can’t tell if they want job concentration or to know which organizations those workers are employed by. I’m waiting to hear back.

TIL about America's Labor Market Information System (ALMIS) Employer Database which is ridiculously inaccessible in aggregate but a good thing to know exists.

I’m looking for a dataset that has locations of large employers.

Is that in IPUMS?

I have a lot of pointless strong opinions, and not liking certain sports teams is something I will hold on to forever.

It's funny how I don't understand why people actually like the Yankees. (Who picks the easy option? Miss me with that "I liked them when they were bad" stuff. You want misery? Be a Mets fan.)

And yet... I understand why people root for the Dodgers. (I am not a Dodgers fan. Only a Kiké fan.)

I really don’t understand how people actually like the Yankees.

I know lots of Yankees fans, too!

Our school doesn't do a drop off line and caregivers who drive still do some wildly dangerous stuff, but it's nothing quite like this.

Today is International Walk and Roll to School Day and I'm happy it was more of a joyful frenzy for free pencils than an aggro line of drivers.

I understand why people are Mets fans. That makes sense!

Liking the Yankees seems like a code for something like “I like the most obvious thing

Just notice this thing about public access on Google Scholar profiles. It shows how many articles are not available based on funding mandates. Interesting!
Chart from a Google Scholar profile.

There is a chart showing "Citations", "h-index" and "i10-index" for All and Since 2020. Citations are 26846 and 12699 since 2020. h-index is 72 and 48 since 2020. i10-index is 258 and 185 since 2020.

The bar chart shows citations from 2018-2025. The peak is just below 2700 in 2024.

There is a section for "Public Access" below that chart. It shows 7 articles not available and 67 articles available based on funding mandates.

Library workers, what are we going to do?

"We must work [twd] direct control of universities. If we do, we’ll be of real use to our knlwdg allies—gov't scientists, public health advocates, local... jrnlsts, community rschrs, theater company directors, et al.—in bldg the self-governing knwldg systems we need to block authoritarian implosion"

It's a pretty bleak way, but I'm sure some aspiring library administrator will explain why ceding all control to private equity is actually a good thing.

The privatization of library infrastructure is going great!

And the library infrastructure for print books continues to crumble. No more binderies, no more distributors. Getting pretty bleak!

Baker & Taylor appears to be shutting down. A post on the r/libraries subreddit from an employee of B&T breaks the news and there appear to be other employees in the comments confirming the situation.

Some things I bring to any volunteer organization is a passion for file organization, an obsession about security permissions, and expertise in handling passive aggressive behavior.

I am a joy to work with and looking for new opportunities!

It turns out we can shuffle the options! I was ready to burn the whole thing down over this.
