Should publishers compensate our review work? Why are APC so high? This clear economic incentive (not ours) affects the quality and credibility of science. If we publish all data “Open”, why is there a need to pay APCs for formatted collections of data+opinions?

2 unpopular theses on academic publishing:

1) The peer-review system is treated like a golden calf, preventing a discussion of its role in today's system

2) To incentivize meaningful publications, we should pay authors and reviewers
