The future of late night is right wing AI slop.

Have you learned more about whether the various journalist, for alt weeklys etc, were deliberately laundering Rice et al’s reputations? or have more thoughts on that?

“The risk of buying into the idea that the AI bubble is bursting is that it risks lulling us into a false sense of comfort… The task now is not to wait for collapse, but to organize for control.“ jacobin.com/2025/09/arti...
If the AI Bubble Pops, It Won’t Be the End
Like past waves of automation, AI isn’t going away. Boom or bust, the fight is over whose interests it will serve.

I was planning to get one today, but the Rx requirement is already in place, so I’ll have to wait. Feels ridiculous.

That said, there have been a number of “longform” creator owned series, mostly from Image, that don’t rival something like One Piece but can’t be dismissed as fly by night movie pitches, like Saga, Monstress, Chew, Kieran Gillan’s books… Something is Killing the Children is getting up there too.

… And when, say, someone as obscure as Peacemaker can be repurposed in new ways.

I kinda see it as more of an issue for what Heidi calls the “big lie” companies that are just throwing ideas over the fence to see what sticks and then moving on, never building anything with staying power.

I think what @comixace.bsky.social is getting at is from a biz perspective, the Jump model is eating the big two’s lunch in terms of generating net new IP. I guess the question is if it really matters when legacy IP has the staying power it does…

The way I’d put it: Manga and North American comics are not in competition with each other as art forms, but Marvel and DC are surely in competition with manga publishers for consumer dollars, shelf-space, and exploitable IP.

A thread on fear of cities. I grew up in 70s & 80s in a mostly working class white town I didn’t know at the time was segregated from the small, Blacker city across the river. My mom was a rare lefty who loved cities, but I absorbed attitudes at school: “cities are scary.” 1/

Plus it's not like big state governors, Democrat or Republican, want to demote themselves to being governors of smaller states.

I don't think it's nearly as feasible as the author made it out to be. It sounds to me like Democrats have much more to gain from this arrangement than Republicans. Republicans benefit from the status quo, so it would be hard to get anything remotely like bipartisan support to make things more fair.

All the talk about redistricting Texas and California reminds me of this article on how we should split big states into smaller ones to improve representation. I agree that it's a simpler and more feasible solution than a new proportional representation scheme but... www.nytimes.com/2021/07/07/o...

hey @bsky.app why was @scumbelievable.bsky.social suspended? considering the timing (she just put a new book out) it feels like someone is weaponizing your safety features in a targeted manner

It's an awkward time to be linking to something on Itch, but I just finished my entry for the Appx. N Jam: Horror at the Cerulean Court klintron.itch.io/cerulean-court

It's a very short Mork Borg module set in the ruins of an ancient arena. (It should be easy enough to run in other systems as well)
