I am guessing it means by distance traveled to get there. Like there may be spots farther east/west longitudinally. I am very bad at visualizing what that would actually look like in practice though. 😬

Related: the farthest eastern and western points of the United States (by travel, not longitude) are in the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They are both called Point Udall but are named after different people, Morris and Stewart Udall.
