Yamato City (Japan) was recognised on #CDP Cities A List 2025, among 120 cities around the world. Its citywide GHG has been cut by 28.2% from 2013 to 2022. Residential solar panels and full recycling of plastic packagings are leading factors. In Japanese:

でも、日本経済がバブルに浮かれて弾けたのも、その後の景気対策で莫大な財政赤字を積立たのも、教育や投資をなおざりにしてきたのも、年金や少子化対策の問題がわかってたのに手を打たなかったのも、米生産が衰えたのも、みんなその頃の現役世代が責任を持って対応しなかった結果。
自分たちの不始末を他人のせいにするのはそれこそ日本人らしくない。私の中のナショナリズムは、そう感じます。

I think that the truth is in reverse: Japan (and the US et al.) is exploiting foreigners.

Joseph Nye’s ’Power and Interdependence’ was one of most memorable international relations books In my undergraduate. I was glad few years ago to find that so was for Anne-Marie Slaughter. It was only this Sunday that I read Nikkei’s interview to Nye. RIP.

高校3年生だった1989年に買ったトマス・マンの短編「マリオと魔術師」。魔術師の幻影に、最初は馬鹿にしていた観客がどんどん踊らされるようになっていく姿を通じて、早くも1930年にファシズムに警鐘を鳴らした小説。
ヒトラーが利用したラジオが、「一億総白痴」のテレビになり、インターネット、SNSとツールは変わっても、同じことが繰り返されていると、改めて思います。
