So much food for thought today after @knatter.bsky.social's presentation of shared work w/ @nwelfens.bsky.social at @oeaw.bsky.social. Between pol actors' use of knowledge & migration researchers' production of it – where lies the answer to the Q: Why does migration research have so little impact?"
Katharina Natter, seated and smiling during her presentation, with a large screen behind her displaying a slide titled 'Why has migration research so little impact?' The slide notes her affiliation with the University of Leiden. Some participants are joining via Zoom. Screenshot of an academic article titled 'Why Has Migration Research So Little Impact? Examining Knowledge Practices in Migration Policy Making and Migration Studies' by Katharina Natter and Natalie Welfens, published in Volume 58, Issue 4. The abstract discusses the limited impact of migration research on policy and public debate, identifying factors like issue politicization, power dynamics, and academic fragmentation. It calls for more collaborative and mutually-reinforcing knowledge practices among migration scholars.
