I'm told I'll seem more like a real person if I put something here
And that will make it less likely that I'll get blocked
But then I think about how strong the desire not to be perceived is
And I wonder why I'd want to avoid being blocked
"Why don't you watch Doctor Who? I'm sure you'd love it!" is like getting weird because someone doesn't want a cocktail. It's fine that _I_ like this weird little space show, but I don't feel any need to drag other people into it with me.

It's a great wallpaper, though. Always makes me smile.

Haha, I have watched every single episode of Doctor Who, and what's more the reason I even started following you is because a long time ago I got a Doctor Who bundle that included a few desktop wallpapers including one of yours that I absolutely love...

But also I totally endorse your choice.

And @nataliezed.bsky.social's Hench is one of my all-time favorite books; it combines some of my favorite things - superheroes, a protagonist who would honestly rather be left alone but will display incredible competence if pressed, and a really clever plot. I'm counting the days until Villain.

@rachaelsmith.bsky.social's Quarantine Comix and Nap Comix have been a constant source of joy in my life for years. Her comics are so tender and personal but also really funny and the facial expressions hit me right in the heart.

OMG further down the thread they're like "but the only way to prevent billionaire presidents is to keep people from owning a shirt."

Just magnificent.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was to avoid the trap of "instant knowledge" where I feel like I understand something I've never thought about before. I can't imagine how annoying I'd be if I weren't always constantly fighting that feeling.

Bluey is fantastic in any language it's got audio for, which conveniently enough includes Español and Español (latinoamérica). The dialog is very clear and they speak at a very even pace

they fight crime

Unable to imagine that the author was actually trying to provoke exactly that response.

Some people really struggle with the idea that you can depict something - even sympathetically, in some cases - without endorsing it. It's like when a bunch of people suddenly rediscovered The Giving Tree and wanted to either decry or "fix" it...

Mine are different but if you recorded me saying one and played it back without context I couldn't tell you which one I was saying.

Every teen I know who uses facebook uses it solely to find dumb shit on marketplace to paste into discord.

What a terrible way for me to learn that people really do say "all the sudden."

Why isn't anyone like "transplant surgeons aren't REALLY domesticated, they'll cut your heart out after you die"?

So what was in Mary for nine months before it was part of God?
December 9, 2025 at 6:13 AM
Same for me. The worst part for me was the period where it had shown up on my eyelid and was still an open question whether it was going to hit the optic nerve. A whole bunch of pain, plus the terror that it might have permanent, major consequences. I wll take a few days of feeling run down, please.

Being extremely clear about expectations and requirements up front is a kindness.

I, on the other hand, am the sort of pervert who deeply enjoys being able to say "well, I *would* work out, if only there were a gym..." while laid over at the airport.

In retrospect, it seems likely that the target list is just entirely "things that make people post the 'incidence of left-handedness' graph."

...and I mean, that said, I don't mind the themed dress-up days. I've made peace with the fact that we will never, ever arrive at school on time on a themed dress-up day; that's just the price we pay for having style.
December 8, 2025 at 8:31 PM
That is an easier plan to execute when your child isn't SUPER EXCITED about them. Like "getting permission from their teacher to dress up on the following day because they were going to miss the dress-up day" excited.
