I'm told I'll seem more like a real person if I put something here
And that will make it less likely that I'll get blocked
But then I think about how strong the desire not to be perceived is
And I wonder why I'd want to avoid being blocked
I mean, this is 100% true, though? Only dropping to 36% while you fuck over every single person in the country who doesn't share your last name? That's a triumph. Holding steady at 41% while you try to make life better for everyone, even the person who tried to have his VP killed? That's awful.
AP on Trump now, and Biden in June 2022.

For Trump, declining to 36 percent approval is “good news.”

For Biden, holding steady at 41% is “a source of concern.”

The "a housecat will eat its owner if the owner dies" thing is so weird to me. What meaning are you even assigning to that? Why are you acting like "you show a creature that you care about it by waiting until it dies and then NOT eating it's corpse" is some sort of moral high ground?

I really need to just sit down one day and watch a movie a dozen times so I can participate in those "A movie you've seen more than X times" things. There are a few movies that I can say with certainty I've watched at least four times, and that feels like a LOT of rewatches for me.

I am just catastrophically the wrong person for this. Behold:

1) Elfquest
2) Dread
3) Monopoly
4) The Minister's Cat
If you wanted to run say, four different games that weren't Dungeons & Dragons in hopes of showing people the breadth of the TTRPG hobby, what games would you run for them? Assume that they are sort of familiar with 5E.

There's a ton to dislike about this post and map, but the thing I find most deeply upsetting are the entirely bizarre lines connecting regions.

Why must a movie be “good”? Is it not enough to sit somewhere dark and see a beautiful face, blue?

The really depressing thing about the whole "if you could have one actor's filmography for your desert island" bit is being reminded once again that if a film character's gender is irrelevant, they will be portrayed by a man.

"Young boy is irresponsible and impulsive, and constantly ignores direct requests to not do things that upset or inconvenience other people, and somehow everything works out in his favor" has always been an annoying genre of kid show, but in 2025 it is entirely excruciating.

Don't worry, they'll be fine.

I've been operating under the assumption that the vast majority of the administration's actions were driven by looting, racism, and revenge... But I'm coming around to the idea that they thought it would be a lot easier to start a civil war.

This is my Usual Suspects moment where I look back at the partner at the law firm who hated reading email, hated reading case law, and was indispensable in the courtroom, and realizing that him not being a fluent reader would answer far more questions than it would raise.
I think more than anything else AI feels like a miracle to people with questionable literacy because it can read and write for you, and a lot of us who are highly literate underestimate how many of our society's leaders, esp in business, struggle with literacy.
It's pretty much mandatory at work that I appear to be using it, so I've doe a few functional things with it, and it's a moderate time-saver if used right. But nowhere near worth it's stock value, energy cost.

Then I realize there's a lot of people who simply can't write coherent paragraphs.

So this article is good, and it says something important, and I hope that people listen to this guy because a lot of people are not listening to the reality he describes. BUT ALSO What a fucking jackass. Just absolutely fuck this guy.

Positive representation of people who were smart but not superhuman smart was really rare, ok?

It will happen this way. A car will slow beside you, and a door will open, and someone you know, maybe even trust, will get out of the car. And he will smile, a becoming smile. But he will leave open the door of the car and offer to give you a lift, Charlie Brown.
You gotta keep his con even after you take his money. He can't know you took him, Charlie Brown.
If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule, Charlie Brown?
