I see these hot takes: "Academia had it coming for [reasons]."

The problem with this is that unless you can explain why immigrants, LGBTQ people, minorities, teachers, federal employees, aid workers, health professionals, etc., ALSO had it coming, you'll end up short of a parsimonious explanation.
