Yeah Weatherwax is a libertarian¹.

1 - Weatherwax was a libertarian but of the cool European sort and not the ghastly American type
kraxis.bsky.social
Yeah it sort of weirdly works as a Tory metaphor at a times. A vague sense of anti-authoritarianism running through the entire work but with everything actually needing a powerful, ruthless paternalistic force to keep the cogs turning.

Crucially not mentioning that the packaging in Latin America does not tell consumers the level of processing - ultra or otherwise. It labels Salt, Sugar, and Fats (and in some countries, according to an article I just read, they include caffeine and artificial sweeteners)

It was fascinating bit of TV especially as the premise that Something Must Be Done about UPFs was just accepted without explaining what that something was. Eventually they halfheartedly suggested we should make the existing traffic light packaging bigger, blacker and mandatory.
kraxis.bsky.social
Ah well you see they’re approved by tests designed by scientists who are in the pocket of big UPF just like how scientists said paid for by big tobacco said smoking was safe
kraxis.bsky.social
Oh man it’s so bad. There is an amazing bit where they take it to a food lawyer to ask her if it’s legal and she just says “Well yes, but you are going to have to put a label on it saying it’ll make you shit yourself”
kraxis.bsky.social
That kind of politics has massive potential if they could avoid getting riven in two over Europe pretty much straight away

FYI Imgur blocking UK users isn't because of the Online Safety Act, it's because they're in the process of being fined for not following data protection laws.

In the town of Bury, Lancashire, it is apocryphally impossible to use the standard test for bowel cancer, because all the residents have so much hemoglobin in their stools because of the amount of black pudding they eat.

"on a technicality"

Not really.

A failure to get necessary consents to a terror charge is not a slight error. They are safeguards when a person faces a serious charge.

Prosecutors should take such safeguards seriously: this is terrorism law they are using.

I’ll remain a fierce advocate for the grassroots – and will continue to fight hard for maximum member democracy.

wow the Norwegian government is so climate conscious, i wonder how they managed to promote EV use so heavily while still maintaining a balanced budget

It's absolutely astonishing: In just about 13 years, Norway has skyrocketed from virtually no sales of zero-emission battery electric vehicles to nearly 100% of all new passenger car purchases.

I thought you were being a bit unfair to the Shomrim there, I’d assumed the London one was more of a neighbourhood watch with silly cars who spoke Yiddish - but no
members who "act inappropriately". Today the Hackney borough commander commends Shomrim in its role as "evidence-gathers" and support for police activities. 8] and they have received public praise from the higher ranks. 20] including most recently Stamford Hill Shomrim received a formal commendation award from the local Metropolitan

Stamford Hill Shomrim members receive ongoing training from the Police at Stoke Newington Police Station and are kept updated about new, targeted police operations in the area. 53]

Excited to announce the first London screening of We Are Making a Film About Mark Fisher, a film I have been helping with this past year. I'm in conversation with Andy Beckett (who features in the fim) afterwards.
