He took in a shuddery breath and glanced up, "I would apologize, but I know it would not be enough." "No, it wouldn't." "What do you want from me?" Tarn exploded into motion. He stalked, waved his hands, and looked at Eric and away just as quickly. His breath hitched, and he sank down into one of the various chairs around the cavernous room; put his head in his hand. Randi lurched out of the chair, wondering where her stomach had gone or her brains had flown off too; undoubtedly, the tentacle spiders that wormed their way through the Queen’s hair were responsible. Silly, thoughts that made no sense, there were no spiders crossed with sea creatures, only jeweled hair pins and braided flowers. Randi walked across the stones that seemed uneven under her feet until she stood beside Vala. Bowing slightly, the silver wand necklace bumped lightly against her skin when Randi straightened. Reaching up she wrapped her fingers around it, nearly yelping in surprise when warmth suddenly flooded through her like that first cup of coffee, sun on a cloudy day, the arms of a friend or the a first kiss.

The silver moon hung in the sky but it did little to dispel the darkness that clung to the fair grounds like a cloak. Ethan hugged the tree line that separated the jousting field from the commons. It wasn’t far to the bridge now. In the distance he could hear the sounds of battle, folk music and laughter all rolled up into a disorienting cacophony. However, beneath the chorus was another noise that chilled his bones and set his heart beating faster. The quiet calculated crunch of fall leaves beneath booted feet and the soft clinking of armored plates one against each other.

Eric pushed himself harder and faster, he lapped the cabin twice more before he slipped going down the hill and landed on his back in the wet leaves at the bottom of the hill. And then they were off, and there was nothing for it, but to tuck his head and close his eyes. The wind of their passage chilled him even as it began to dry his wet clothing. At some point, he must've passed out or slept because he came back to himself with hard stone under his body. Above him the 'sky'--for he had no other word for it--was a vivid range of purple and the light that came from it seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere. Eric rolled his gaze around as much as he could, but his vision swam, and he closed his eyes. "Awake then, are we?" Mori asked, and his footsteps scraped across the stone. Beside him the girl laughed and asked if all invisible men were that eager to let it all fall out. Despite himself, Eric laughed, "Well, if no one can see you why not?" Lilac blooms dotted the edges of the trail in every shade imaginable; wine dark purpled, innocent white, and gentle lavender polka dots against greening trees. Overhead hung a sun that this time of year would get neither too hot nor two cold. A breeze sung down the sloping trail that lead a merry chase up the mountain side. Further up the path, Bobbie and Rob walked side by side, purpose and destination evident even in their slow rambling. The magnetic tug of a smile turned up the corners of Fraya's mouth as she jumped from on large bolder to another. With her arms spread wide as if to embrace the world, she felt like she could fly.

“What are…” The words escaped her mouth before she could think better of it. The look of indifference on the man’s face shut her up faster than any words. Fraya bit her lower lip, and she turned away. She wasn’t going to cry over a gods be damned poster or a pair of damned underwear no matter how fantastic they’d been. The mantra of ‘I will not cry’ carried her the rest of the way down the hall and out the door of the interdisciplinary building. Wide gray steps paved the way to main drag through the small campus. The pathway to all enlightenment and knowledge except what she wanted to know.

April grabbed for her hat but missed, too enthralled by the creature before her. The wind teased her short hair, teasing the longer strands on top and whipped icy fingers down her back. He laughed in her mind and leaned in to nip at the hair on top of her head with great yellow teeth.
