Investering i eiendom er sannsynligvis mindre påvirket av formuesskatt enn investeringer i bedrifter. Dermed er det et faglig argument for høyere formuesskatt på eiendom enn på andre typer formue.

Any revenue-raising reform could be quite progressive if it’s spent on the NHS. Council tax increases are probably the least progressive way to do it.

Thanks for reading it! It’s true that it would hit the poorest more than income taxes would, so it’s valid concern. But if supporting the poorest is most important, I would recommend improving benefits and focus on targeting. If making work pay is the priority, VAT is better than income tax.

Should the tax system treat people who are similarly situated equally? In 2017 I wrote an @lsephilosophy.bsky.social dissertation arguing that the basis for equal treatment in tax is weaker than we might think. The paper is now available in the Erasmus Journal for Philosophy and Economics
