Most acting is basically just “becoming A Guy”, but rarely we get to see an actor conjure A Guy seemingly from thin air. DDL did this in phantom thread, PSH was another master. It is beyond my comprehension. I can only understand how one might become A Guy. Not invent a person, which is sublime.

Like it’s kinda bizarre cuz I knew a little what to expect just from pop culture osmosis about the character, but seeing where it actually all stems from, a performance which is truly singular, still leaves me a bit slack jawed. Again, I must repeat… how can someone act that good???
