Social media has the whole spectrum of human flaws, but it also has strengths that can be a huge part of the protection they're trying to achieve. They've now lost that opportunity through now understanding it. It's a soft option that trusts the worst companies to do the right thing.

I'm not going to knock the intention, but the method is short-sighted and highly prone to unforeseen (by them) side-effects. It's based around not listening to the people affected whilst trying to sell them an idealised, rose-tinted lifestyle that doesn't match their lived experience.

This is a massive part of what I do for a living, and I've just been shaking my head at the whole deal. The UK peer trying to do the same thing here, as well as adding an age limit on VPNs, had me slamming the car radio off yesterday in frustration.

I have a horrible feeling from the way it's played that everyone involved knew exactly what this would achieve, and that it would spread way beyond the usual audience. Well, perhaps everyone but one person.
