The EU’s rationale is to balance out natural differences in economic, military and population size. No other international organization aims to increase the relative power and safeguard the sovereignty of small states in the same institutionally anchored way as the EU does.

"Dig deeper, and it turns out the EU’s trade nerds have stirred some unaccustomed creativity into their expert knowledge of obscure customs codes, while channeling a helping of passive aggression to inflict pain on Trump’s base."
”Finally, women’s negligées from Ohio and Kentucky, a fan favorite from the Commission’s first proposal, made the final cut; so did men’s undergarments, although they are mostly found in blue state.”

It sounds like DG Trade had a bit too much fun with this

European trade officials sure know how to have fun.

The big bearish USA / bullish European trade in one stunning chart.

The March Bank of America Fund Manager Survey shows the largest monthly drop ever in US equity allocation - whilst investors are ploughing into European equities.

Just heard that Trump is putting an end to atmospheric monitoring site NY67 that is run out of my lab. This is one of the oldest NADP sites in the US, continually measuring acid rain and other pollutants since 1977. Closing it down is tragic.

In 2019, the National Park Service had a budget of $4 billion but generated over $30 billion in economic activity.

Firing federal workers and cutting public programs is going to end up costing us MORE, not less.
New data from the US Treasury reveals that federal spending was $603 billion in February, which is $36 billion HIGHER than February last year under Biden.

This suggests that DOGE has done nothing to cut spending.
Trump's first month showed $36 billion more in spending than last year
This February's monthly statement showed federal payments that were $36 billion higher than last February's.

New from me - is it possible we are actually at peak populism? This post is an exercise in working through a scenario - I may very well be wrong. But also, outside of America, I think something is shifting. Because of America. 1/n

Perhaps it's possible that, despite it all, we have reached peak populism

A friend included this anti-acknowledgement section on her PhD thesis. She also added the proposition: “Systematic bullying and undermining of girls and women in STEM starts early on and is the reason why they do not stay in science and related fields.”
Absurd we still need to go through this

Anyone can provide Ukraine with more drones. For example via these two Czech sites:

Or you can just helplessly watch what's happening there. Retweets help for sure.

France and the UK, “some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 20 or 30 years.”

The UK lost 457 soldiers in Afghanistan, fighting alongside the US, and 179 soldiers in Iraq.
Hard to overstate what an insult this is to the Brits.
