"Enthält Zucker" ist aber auch speziell. 100 % wie "kann Spuren von Nüssen enthalten" auf der Tüte mit Erdnüssen ...

Potatober #8: 30 years ago, potatoes became the first vegetables to be grown in space.
A potato floating in space wearing a NASA Snoopy cap, which has a microphone even though the potato has no mouth. It is tethered to an instrument panel.

Wie schon 2015 in den USA festgestellt wurde: The cruelty is the point. Es ist so gewollt und die Bevölkerung wurde mehrheitlich nie erfolgreich entnazifiziert. Es wird hier genau wie in den USA enden, nur noch dümmer.

I can imagine keeping ONE ostrich as a pet.

A dangerous dickhead pet, if you're unlucky. A sweet but difficult pet if you are.

But if you hear "400 ostriches" and don't immediately know it's a meat farm... I have energy healing to sell you.

Mind you, it will walk away to die quietly of internal injuries. But it will walk away.

'Berlin at Night.' (c1860) Described by Degas as the ‘greatest living master’ during his lifetime, Adolph von Menzel is less remembered today outside of Germany than the French painter who admired him; his career deserves far greater appreciation and study than it receives.

"There are currently one to two Starlink satellites falling back to Earth every day ... Soon, McDowell told us, there will be up to 5 satellite reentries per day." 😳

SCIENCE! ♥️

Also, my dog reacted to neither word when I played this, but barked along because clearly something outrageous happened.

400 years earlier: Rembrandt steps out of his studio, watches a carrion crow trying to eat a pie crust and thinks "I'll never capture this properly. Back to the portraits. :/"

Potatober #7: The season for adelie penguins to start courting and building nests is approaching.

A potato will be hard to beat with a rock, even a good rock.

For MUCH better adelie drawings, see @twirlynoodle.com.

Oh look everyone's favourite did a Titan (okay, not quite, but if you can see that knowing the properties of fibreglass should have stopped you from taking people on trips in your fibreglass submarine, WELL...)

A screenshot from the conclusion of the linked article: Finally, there is clear evidence that, before sailing towards the Weddell Sea, Shackleton knew that compressive ice loading should be expected, he knew how a ship should be designed for compressive ice, and he knew that Endurance was not that kind of a ship. Shackleton was well aware of the risks related to the strength of Endurance, but chose to use it anyway.

Ooooh new word for me, thank you! But yeah, leaning towards "it's English". 😁

By the time I'm done saying "Eichhörnchen", it's probably gone and something else, more interesting will have come up.

"Squirrel" sounds sufficiently urgent and is BARELY two syllables.

I didn't try alerting the dog to the grey ones either though... hm.

(He did chase a muntjac though!)
kubobukata.bsky.social
I had never seen a dog chasing a squirrel until I saw a lab chase a grey one up a tree in the UK. Maybe it IS the word "squirrel"?

My own dog is frequently cussed out by the red ones in my garden (as am I) – but he absolutely doesn't care. They hang out in front of my office window sometimes:

I don't know, but I CAN tell you it better not be like the "zen mode" in memoq.

if @bsky.app introduced a "Zen Mode" — what do you think it would be? what problem would you want it to solve?

Noodles! A word originally borrowed from German "Nudel" possibly related to German "Knödel", meaning dumplings.
adamcsharp.bsky.social
Today is National Noodle Day, which is very lucky because it gives me the chance to mention that a French way of saying you are very lucky is avoir le cul bordé de nouilles. It means “to have an ass lined with noodles.”

Now look at how much of this 249 year experiment was spent on reinforcing the idea that having money (or appearing to) automatically means you're doing the right things, and it's a lot less staggering all of a sudden.
andrewjweinstein.com
It really is staggering to see so many people willing to abandon our 249 year experiment in democracy for an increasingly unstable criminally convicted reality show charlatan.
