On a positive note it has understandably gotten 300% easier to watch Schitt's Creek so I'm going to take full advantage of that.

Note a new thermister comes with a new hot bed.

Also note that I got my husband to get his multimeter out and measured the thermister to be outputting 100k Ω, meaning the thermister is working to spec. Whatever is receiving the information is broken (motherboard!)

After finally figuring out it was a motherboard problem, I got a reply from Creality support saying I should buy a new thermister for $2 with $30 shipping.

A new thermister on the hot bed.

The hot bed I bought brand new from the Creality store one month ago. As I already mentioned.

Kill me.

90% of my 3D printing experience has been fixing things. I'm so done with this.

That has been on my long list of todo repairs but you make a good point that maybe all it needs is some love and care. Never serviced before either! Kind of amazing if you think about it.

I also agree the modern machines are cheap but some of those QOL technological updates are really nice.

I've tried many remedies over the years to minimize cat smell but it's nigh impossible, especially with the litter box having to be open and in the middle of our place, or else we'd be getting special surprises from our near-senior cat.
