It takes minutes to set up. Organization (like media, universities, companies, government) can create their own rules for who gets validated, what they use it for, and who keeps the following.

Plus, it pushes the meaning of verification on the outside corporate entity. What it means to skeet at "bob.cnn.com" is up to CNN only. Whether people transfer their followers in/out is a CNN matter.

The ATProto effort underlying BlueSky doesn't center the corporation in the same way. All people with a stable internet presence (from OSS devs to modern media) can engage with that protocol using standard internet tools.

It doesn't have a lot of "UI flair" right now, but it does serve a slightly different function. It's really to tie your internet presence together in a "this is also that" way rather than designating people deemed worthy of going through a corporate verification process.

We need some sort of "Weiss/Quillette/IDW Rule of Heterodoxy" to convey that, as every boneheaded attempt to gather groups of "different thinkers" grows, the probability of including full-blown neo-Nazis approaches 1.

Reading lips, that looks like a vowel swap, saying "mig-migrant", correcting from a short to long "i" sound. You can see him transition mouth shape from "n" to "m" after "Haitian".

I'm hearing "mig" with a short "i" sound, quickly corrected to the long "i". I'm also seeing him switch from the open-mouth "n" shape at the end of "Haitian" to form a lips-together "m".
