I like the 3DS :>

Capture card and controller mod installations for every 3DS model
It's also definitely possible to add a full second circle pad on the New 3DS and New 3DS XL, but only if you make a custom backplate to house the battery, and a PCB replacement for the ABXY board (and a microcontroller to translate the values).

I also want to do this for the original 3DS and 3DS XL, but for those, the nubbin might actually be the only viable option.

Shoulder buttons would require a custom backplate but that's not that bad. Old 3DS has the Cameron Sino battery cover so I can add a lot more stuff too.

I did consider a dual Switch Joy-Con joystick setup, but since the base on the right stick would sit directly on the motherboard, it would feel off since it would sit taller and get in the way of ABXY. The main circle pad has a cutout on the motherboard so it can sit recessed. True for all 3DS mobo.

The PSP1000 is likely the only viable joystick for this without gutting out a huge chunk of the shell.

The base is thin enough, and the height is smaller than just about anything else so it wouldn't feel off.

The only thing smaller that I can find is the nubbin on the "New" models.

Now inputs diagonals. I can probably make it do analog input at this point but I'm perfectly fine with this since I don't play any games that require precision via the c-stick. This is fine for camera control.

Download the viewer software from here: blog-non-standard.blogspot.com?m=1

Copy the device ID and enter it here: optimize.ath.cx/productkey_e...

It will output the product key. These are official links.

You can also use cc3dsfs if you don't have a Windows PC.

The downside with the jacks is that they only have 3 or 4 conductors, so the controller types I can use are limited.

I can use either N64 AND GCN controllers, or just Wii Classic controllers.

The ports in the pictures are TRS, though, so only N64 and GCN. TRRS ones with enough length are uncommon

This one's a bit better.

+ USB-C port.

Doing this requires relocating the micro SD card slot, trimming the capture board, and soldering wires directly to the motherboard (the FPC adapters aren't long enough + need to be cut off anyway).

Yeah it's doable.
