You don't see lots of arguments that Germany or Italy or heck even France or Spain shouldn't exist, even though they're rooted 8n the exact same logic and justification of political philosophy as Israel, and historically actively worked to eradicate local regional cultures within their borders. 3/3

Plus for decades Israel was quite effective at branding itself as a regional bastion of (western) liberal values and an underdog. Not to mention the realpolitic of basically having a western enclave/puppet in an oil rich region. 2/3

There's a few reasons: There's always been a kind of tolerance of ethnonationalism, in the sense of the defense of the nation state as a concept at all. It's also present in this notion that nationalism is some bulwark against greater Imperialism when the little guys do it. 1/3

I have litterally argued for the academic merits of the gay porn studio who's whole deal is acting out intergenerational incest stuff, specifically because they made a fettish video so groundbreaking it's been cited in academic papers.

But what would a sound notion of bodily autonomy divorced from philosophical individualism even look like? Not as a middle ground compromise, between it and collectivism but as a wholly alternative construction? I'm not certain myself but I'm in a place to articulate what's been bothering me. 8/8

And do it's this failure which creates a tension between bodily autonomy and collective needs. And with treating it as fundamental, and not relational, we foster an internal psychological conflict between bodily autonomy and societal needs.

If anything it's about how the Others exist in direct opposition to the very concept. Which is where it finally clicked for me. In that we don't foster a collectivist or simply non-individualist framework of bodily autonomy.

Which circles back to Pluribus, and discourse I've seen around bodily autonomy, and how it's about the bodies of the immune or the bodies of the Others/Hive as somehow separate entities from it, but pretty much never really about the Others as an entity.

And I often as a neurodivergent person find myself empathizing or sympathizing with the "other" and the "alien" in these cases, if not at least wanting to understand how the operate and exist in their world.

While I realize it's an entirely fantastical and sci-fi framework that doesn't exist in real life, I also think this is exactly the value in those sorts of things, in that they can by illustrating the fantastical give us a framework for the abstract, which real life doesn't always provide. 3/8
