I genuinely thought the LLM / AI thing would blow over as soon as anyone pointed out it was based on piracy and had no viable business plan. That we’re still talking about it, betting on it, is gobsmacking. It should be the Tamagotchi craze of our decade. It should be Pogs by now.

Again I say: how fucking interesting that remote work technology is bad and not worth adopting despite all research pointing to productivity gains, but genAI which offers NOTHING is so important to adopt and force on people who have no use for it despite all the horrible things genAI does

Yeah, the money is all going to the top, nobody on the bottom is paid enough to think of anything, and any innovations that do come from down below get eaten by middle management.

If Scott Adams hadn't gone off the deep end he'd be capable of making some very pithy observations about this.

Are we running out of new ideas, or are we living in a society that has relegated so many people to poverty that they don't have time to sleep, let alone be creative and innovative.

It is true that the corporate world has become less innovative in the 21st century. The last big game-changing inventions that everyone bought were the iPhone and video streaming.

What the article ignores is that companies have also stopped spending money on R&D or paying their engineers well.
