Another maternity inquiry wholly focused on care delivered on labour wards. The policies and targets set for those trusts by DHSC, NHS England, and their response to concerns is conspicuously absent.

One of the best things in the Hillsborough Law Bill is not the duty of candour on public officials, as welcome as that is, but news that bereaved families will have publicly funded legal representation at inquests. Finally an equality of arms that's been lacking for so long

"I met with BMA today, & while we can’t go further on pay than we already have this year, I offered to work with them to resolve issues they face around working conditions. These are not grounds for strike action. My offer to meet entire committee remains open." @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social
Wes Streeting will meet BMA doctors this pm. The position at the moment is no negotiation over this year's pay rise. If strikes go ahead that could derail the small progress on waiting lists...

But as one NHS leader told me recently, it's sometimes good to have someone to blame.

“No trade union in British history has seen its members receive a 28.9% pay rise only to immediately respond with strikes, and the majority of BMA resident doctors didn’t vote to strike.

“This is completely unreasonable" says @wesstreeting on new strike dates.

My family had a recent experience of hospital care & we saw effect of this type of taskification of care. Pointless delays, miscommunication, unnecessary referrals etc. No one had the patient at the core of their thinking as they did their bit of the job - result was real anguish

Maternity 'investigation' isn't enough for our families - the PM should listen
Giving up isn't an option for the families. If there's one thing I've learnt since meeting the campaigning parents years ago, it is that they will not take 'no' for an answer

Fair play, I am not a fan of Wes Streeting but this is really good news. Change is long overdue and the approach of looking at some of the worst areas first and then zooming out to look at the bigger picture seems sensible.
