I just finished O.O. Sangoyomi’s Masquerade and what a brilliant book. Beautifully captured the world of Yorubaland and its mythology. And the ending had me smiling for the rest of the day. Well worth a read. 😘

Cudos to @gov.je and the Infrastructure Dept for this interactive map of Jersey with symbols showing where damage from Storm Goretti has occurred, and then faded symbols where it has been dealt with. Really helpful for Islanders and an eye-popping indication of the storm’s impact.

Quite the change in atmospheric pressure as Storm Goretti passed through Jersey. 😳 With the strong wind gusts last night, our ears seemed to feel the change in pressure in our house.

That. When my partner asks why we need to keep our woodpile topped up and worry about heating our house, I’m always ‘for when we reach …

Just finished the fourth (and final 🥺) book in @zanzjan.bsky.social ‘s Finder Chronicles series. What a great read! Fantastic world-building, accurate science. A really enjoyable series. 😀

This morning’s setting Moon doing its impersonation of the setting Sun. 😊

I didn’t mind the rain during our walk this afternoon, as it came with this beautiful rainbow.

When the atmospheric conditions really show how many planes there are flying about — so many contrails! 😱

A reasonably clear day with not too strong winds so I got a chance to image the sun with my Odyssey @unistellar.bsky.social scope and a solar filter. I had to lighten the image as it comes out so dark at this time of year, with the sun so low on the horizon. But nice to see the sunspots. 🤩

Happy holidays to everyone and best wishes for 2026. 🎄

My winter solstice tree is space themed this year so if a spaceman comes travelling, the lights are there to guide them in. 😊

The app for my home solar system just updated and it now does 6-dimensional diagnostics! I know solar is futuristic but being able to measure things in 6 dimensions! 😳

A starry start to the day here in the Channel Islands, with some light clouds swooshing by. A 2-minute exposure with a hand-held phone.

I was gifted a copy of Nature’s Acre by @gardeningwell.ie & as it was a gloomy day I settled down & dove in. What a lovely read! Inspiring & insightful, showing how to bring nature & gardening to the wider community as well as the younger generation. Will be getting copies for my gardening friends.

A beautiful sunrise here in the Channel Islands. 🥰

Just finished reading @wtalabi.bsky.social ‘s Shigidi & the brass head of Obakulon. A fun heist story and a great read. 😀 The ending left things open for a sequel — yes, please🙏🙏🙏

I auctioned a #GoodOmens2 rucksack which was part of some swag I won in an auction by @terryandrob.bsky.social a few years ago. It sold for £500. Monies from both sales went to @alzheimersresearchuk.org. Thanks to the amazing GO fandom&to @theineffablecon.bsky.social for posting it to boost the sale

My lovely limited signed edition of @scalzi.com Constituent Service arrived safely today in the British Isles. The cover looks such fun but I might save reading it until @subpress.bsky.social send details of the e-copy, so the print copy remains unsullied. 😆

When I go to the website I just get this. Does it not work for people outside Canada?

We’ve gone solar! I’ve wanted to for so long & finally brought my partner round. We installed 27 2.3m x 1.1m panels on our northfacing (right), westfacing (left) & eastfacing roofs; plus 2 10kW batteries. Even with today’s clouds we are generating all the power we need & charging up the batteries.🥳

While it’s fine that @gov.je have posted on Xitter to let the right-wingers know about the severe wind that is hitting the Islands tonight & Thu, it would be great if they used their account here on Bluesky to also warn the majority of us, who don’t twit. Thanks @metoffice.gov.uk for including us

Had a few days in London & visited places inspired by reading @benaaronovitch.bsky.social Rivers of London:
Regent’s Park & canal (no Melvin and Goddess)
Kew Gardens (did Peter do this to the tree)
Grand Union canal at Kensal Green Cemetery (no Francesca)
Hampstead Heath (squirrels but no foxes)

Passing through London & into @goshcomics.bsky.social to pick up the first issue of Expanse A Little Death by @andydiggle.bsky.social & Wes Chatham. It was the last copy, so super chuffed. I think issue 2 comes out when I am going back through London😀… or it comes out the day I am at the airport😢.

Where I live in the British isles the latest Covid vaccine is only available free to certain groups & there is no way to get it privately. But in the UK, Boots offer a private service & as I was passing through London I booked myself in & got the latest vaccine. Sore arm but very pleased 😀💪

I think you used the wrong picture. Isn’t this the one that should lead the story?

The temperature was very summery for my walk this afternoon but the colours in the lanes were definitely autumn. A beautiful time of year.
