Councillor for College Ward in the City of Ottawa.
This is so great! Way to catch attention for what can be a pretty unsexy topic !

Residents deserve a thoughtful and intentional vote, every single time. Whether a councillor votes for or against, a councillor will have their own evidence-based reasons. When I read an argument made for the contrary, I worry if we have lost touch with why we were elected in the first place.

I would never publicly call into question another's vote, on budget or anything. I was disappointed to see this approach in the paper this weekend. We need to work together & I must trust that each of us should be held to the same standard of personal & professional accountability to our residents.

I’ve been proud to consider each item as its come forward and have had to choose, every time, whether it’s in the best interests of College Ward residents. Sometimes, that looks like voting with the majority, and sometimes, it’s standing alone.

I believe I have been able to answer yes. But each time, that might look different. Through this Term of Council, we have had some votes that have followed predictable splits, sure, but others that have surprised many of us around the table.

I remember when I was running for office, the context at that time was the LRT Inquiry. I remember neighbours being incensed with the situation. They asked me, can you stand up for what you believe in? Will you demonstrate integrity? Can you defend the public interest?

Word on the public health street is that this flu season has started early and is particularly hard on little and young people. Take care of each other #collegeward!

Thanks for the note Heather. We requested some additional information from @hydroottawa.bsky.social a few months back and we have a deck coming in the coming week or so seems timely! For College Ward, the more recent outages have been more related to loss of supply from the provincial grid.

This day is an opportunity to reflect on violence against women in our society and to remember those who have died as a result of gender-based violence, including intimate partner violence; and to come together, speak out, and take action to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.

I do get pushback sometimes in my #collegeward work that accessibility standards aren’t showing value for money since most people can live without. I think that’s unfortunate. When we consider it from a human rights perspective, that’s a callous way to build a city. We all deserve a liveable city.
