Mid-October, the Centennial branch parking lot is being repaved. Work will take about six weeks. This will be unavoidably disruptive to library patrons, so the library wants you to know what is planned.

I was thrilled to attend the grand opening of the IDEAL Wellness Centre at 2944 Baseline. Mission: provide exceptional care while contributing to a stronger, more accessible healthcare system—ensuring that individuals have timely access to physicians, pharmacists, urgent care, and allied services.

Pinecrest School is an important part of our community. I am proud to advocate for student priorities and a diverse population of fabulous families. I look forward to bringing together more city services to meet people where they are at. Every school is a school worth fighting for. #collegeward

It’s that exciting time of year when you can spot Forestry staff planting trees in your neighbourhood. Weather permitting, between now and November, College Ward will see 50 new trees, above and beyond any as part of construction projects or as a condition of a tree removal permit.
Current Tree Planting Programs
The City provides a variety of programs and projects for tree planting along residential streets, in parks, greenspaces and forested areas. Descriptions of the City's current tree planted programs…

Brought some friends to Madahoki Farm to walk the Legacy Trail and reflect the day before #NDTR. A #collegeward gem, the farm offers educational experiences and connections to Indigenous teachings. If you haven’t been, it’s high time you went. The endangered Ogibwe horses are beautiful.

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the journey of the Vietnamese boat people to Ottawa. We have a rich history of welcoming refugees and being better for it.

Ben Franklin Place in #collegeward #Nepean hosts such interesting local events. Most recently, I was able to catch the tail end of a book event for Hearts of Freedom, by Peter Duschinsky, Colleen Lundy, Michael J. Molloy, Allan Moscovitch and Stephanie Phetsamay Stobbe.

Many gathered tonight in support of Nelson House and the Sue Sherring Legacy Fund. Gender-based violence calls are up 5% from 2024, this is not ok. Alongside @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social @seandevine9.bsky.social and @tkavanaghbayward.bsky.social we welcome Clarissa’s fresh leadership!

I was delighted to meeting Caroline Franks from the Nepean Rideau Osgoode Community Resource Centre (NROCRC) to celebrate their Tools 4 School program. This school year, they were able to provide backpacks and school supplies to every student who requested one.

Thank you, Pat; these are fantastic and we'll use them to strengthen our argument to the Premier.

Look at your visor!! Amazing. Someone in the neighbourhood gave away a k-way suit on the
Buy nothing and I’m stoked to try it in the rain.

My add to the #weekwithoutdriving convo is that you don't have to be exclusively a driver, or a non-driver. I sit somewhere in the middle now. You don't have to get caught in the either-or of the conversation. You should always be able to choose different modes for different trips, and be welcomed.

I have grown to loathe sitting in traffic. It feels angry and wasteful. I was determined to make a different choice for my physical and mental health. Being a city councillor, you're not left with much 'you' time. So creating that time as part of my commute has been invaluable for me.

When my youngest started school, I no longer had multiple morning drops. I was able to make a different choice. And for the last month, every time that I can, I've chosen to bike. I've kept using the car on weekends with kids, and for larger errands. But to commute, it feels like I'm flying.
lainejohnson.bsky.social
I've been up to something. For many, it's not worth making a big deal of it. But for me, it's been a goal for a long time. I started commuter cycling from #collegeward. I think it makes sense to share this as my entry into the #weekwithoutdriving challenge.

Great news! Staff tell me that the long-awaited speed humps on David Drive, Moodie Drive and Coben Avenue will be built on Wednesday October 8th and Thursday October 9th with pavement markings and permanent signage to follow shortly after.

Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras are working in College Ward.

I graphed the 85th percentile speed of cars by the age of the camera. College Ward has two older cameras (1000+ days) and 2 x younger (100 days).

You can see how speeds quickly trend downward once the cameras are installed.

Thanks, Pat. Would you mind if I shared this in an upcoming newsletter to residents? With credit, of course.

What a gorgeous day to spend with neighbours in Qualicum! Many thanks to the Qualicum-Graham Park Community Association for organizing a fun event. And thanks, too, to Councillor @jleiper.bsky.social , MP @anitavandenbeld.bsky.social , and Mayor Mark Sutcliffe for coming out!

Queensway Carleton Hospital’s CIO Lindsay Wyers celebrated turning 40 with her first mammogram. She recorded her experience in an honest vlog. Spoiler alert: it was quick, professional, and less uncomfortable than the dentist (and faster than a Tim’s drive-thru). Watch it now! youtu.be/pv8OzpNHR9c
VP and CIO Lindsay Wyers Gets Her First Mammogram at 40! 💗
Did you know the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) lowered the age for self-referral to 40? That means if you’re between the ages of 40 and 74, you can now book your own mammogram – no doctor’s…
