I'm getting a lot of emails today in the vein of "Oh, you thought we were done spamming you ten times a day about black friday and cyber monday? WE'VE EXTENDED IT since you didn't buy anything, loser!"

I have two dear friends memorialized in the AIDS quilt - one I went to high school with, who went on to be a pioneering video artist in NYC. The second, Chuck Hovey, who with his partner Ian became my ride-or-dies when I moved to Toronto at 18 not knowing a soul. ❤️

Many years ago, 18 years old, I worked in Toronto, on Queen's Quay with those frigid waters in view, at Victoria Station restaurant - I don't think you're anywhere near old enough to remember that, I know a lot has changed on the waterfront since then!

same, put the winter jacket on, got my steps in, and it helped.

Always curious how many people actually have a food processor.

My dad's students at Cal State Chico interviewed him before he died in 1991. I love having those recordings.

(oops, devalues *us*). If you want good students, make old people feel welcome in your programs. I speak from experience, having been called the star student in a recent two-year program but then no decent internship, no support for actual work, even on a volunteer basis.

Yes, and also - as a serious person - to stay curious and learn new skills and continue making a valuable contribution to the world. As in, to be able to do good work no matter how much society devalues.

This, exactly. Biden was actually governing. But nobody wanted a boring old governing person who was visibly old, even though that also meant experienced. They wanted a reality sh*tshow criminal and they got one.

As a lifelong learner, at 68, yes, you can always do another program or degree. They'll take your money. But finding a program that genuinely wants and cares about older students, and understands their motivation, is a whole different story.

When so many commenters ask for a stovetop version, why don't you provide it? You give steps for no microwave but not for no slow cooker?

Always loved seeing the Obama family on Thanksgiving serving meals. Our wealthy governor (Polis) just posts himself at fancy ski resorts. And sadly can't imagine current pres + spouse + kids ever serving a meal and talking to their fellow humans at a shelter or food hall.

I hate the reels and stories. and the awkward messaging. It's all incredibly clumsy.

Was just thinking about this. And sometimes stuffed animals too (which is way better than real animals, but it's weird).
