This is especially helpful for dialogue and trying to emulate a certain character’s voice since not everyone talks the same.
the single greatest piece of writing advice i can give is to read your writing out loud. all of it. start to finish. it's the fastest way you can learn to hear what sounds natural and what doesn't.

Last day of work before Christmas. I did not sleep at all so today is going to be a struggle. Might have to get a very large iced coffee. Maybe if I get a holiday flavor I will stop feeling like the Grinch.

Okay, done crashing out about the leak. Books from that shelf are safely packed in storage containers, a few plushes are wet but will dry, and the heated cat bed probably needs to be tossed, which will make Billy sad, but at least nothing else was damaged. But now my room looks like a storage unit.

The roof in the shitty rental house we live in is leaking again, this time in my room right over my bookshelf with my precious Anne Rice books, including some very expensive & irreplaceable copies. Nothing is damaged so far that I can tell except the heated cat bed that sits beside it but
