“We’re talking about doing something extraordinary here for the government to sentence people to what’s essentially slave labor, torture, prison in El Salvador based on nothing, based on having a flower tattoo.”

The cracks in support show how seriously some conservatives are taking the administration’s aggressive and at times slapdash tactics.

Keep in mind that for every instance of a lawyer's obtaining due process for one of these unlawful deportations, there are absurdly many deportees who aren't represented, who couldn't contact counsel, and whose families and friends don't know where they are.

Never enjoyed math in school until I was teaching and hearing how kids thought through it. I am not a math person, I’m a young people person.

Immigration & Education:

This notice from the National College Attainment Network went out Thurs., warning immigrant & mixed-status families that it may not be safe for them to file a FAFSA, b/c data may not be protected & people could be targeted.

More at: minnesotareformer.com/2024/11/22/t...
Notice from NCAN, which was emailed to counselors and other college advisors. It says that, although the Higher Education Act prohibits use of personal data except to determine f/a eligibility, NCAN "cannot assure you at this time that data submitted will be protected" or that it won't be used to identify & target people. It says that, for some people, the risks of submitting a FAFSA will outweigh the benefits.

Migrant children have been traveling alone to the U.S. in record numbers since 2021. About a third are reunited with parents, but the rest live with other relatives or strangers. Many end up working in dangerous jobs that violate labor laws. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
A map shows the locations and population numbers of migrant children across the U.S. A headline reads: “Where Migrant Children Were Sent to Live With Non-Parent Sponsors.” Source: Analysis of data from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Often this is how we prepare elementary teachers to rethink word problems and their accessibility and to start to see the possibilities that exist for seeing problems as more than just exercises of specific operations

This makes total sense—it’s the kind of adaptation of ideas to serve neoliberal aims that we see happen often. “Equity” is one example. I can see how a neoliberal emphasis on constant self-improvement could invoke both these authors without recognizing any inconsistencies.

Financial aid rules that limit UNDERGRADUATES from taking the classes they want is anathema to what a college education is supposed to be.
Student literally wrote, “if financial aid allowed me to take another Politics course I would”
This is messed up.
