So the divide isn’t between left and center — it’s between those who see government as a shield for ordinary Americans, and those who see it as a chessboard for compromise. Warren & Sanders stand in FDR’s shadow. Kaine stands in the middle.

FDR Democrats don’t believe in “later.” They believe in doing the hard thing now — legislating for the people even if it means breaking with power brokers. That’s the fight progressives think Kaine & the moderates keep dodging.

Why? Because the deal funds SNAP and pays workers — good steps — but punts on healthcare, offering only a future vote on ACA tax credits. For Warren and Sanders, that’s the same old Washington logic: we’ll fix it later.

Fast-forward: the Senate passes a bipartisan deal to reopen the government. Kaine votes yes. Warren calls it a “terrible mistake.” Sanders calls it a “policy and political disaster.” Both see it as history repeating itself.

Kaine’s DNC tenure (2009–11) told a similar story: a leader focused on unity, not confrontation — fundraising over fire. As progressives warned then, that style often means retreat when the moment demands boldness.

That’s the lens through which Warren, Sanders, and others view Tim Kaine’s vote to reopen the government after the longest shutdown in U.S. history. To them, this isn’t pragmatism — it’s surrender of the very principles Democrats once stood for.

Former YDSA member during my college days, and I can't remember but does the DSA run candidates? If so, thats a solid strategy rather than trying to change Dem leadership.
