I was so dumb to put a spare car battery in the back trunk and lie it to the side so the battery leaks and ruins the tools inside 😭

After two days of research about the workout apps on iOS and iWatch, I decided to remove Runkeeper app (and the trial Strava app) and use only Workout app, but try to figure out a way to automatically synchronize the data to Runkeeper server to keep align with my old data.

Spent the whole night last night to beat the borrow checker but ended up forking a third-party library and expose a Cow field of a struct and everything became perfect

Note: there’s another struct exposing a similar field so I’m not inventing something new

TIL: When writing integration tests in Rust, assert_cmd::Command::cargo_bin(env!("CARGO_BIN_EXE_xxx")).unwrap() will panic on Windows because the binary path will be xxx.exe.exe

Have to use assert_cmd::Command::new(assert_cmd::cargo::cargo_bin("xxx"))

TIL: There’s https://sources.debian.org/stats/ with lines of code by programming language (not including Rust, though) in Debian over time.

C++ and Lisp start on the same level but C++ grows a lot more over the years.

Also shows how massive amounts of code in memory-unsafe languages there are.

Big changes announced yesterday. Company restructed. Someone moved. Someone promoted.

Let’s keep calm and carry on and enjoy this sunny Friday and my 3rd anniversary in this company.

can't image there are still open-source projects actively managing their source code on SourceForge in 2024

Update formatting of readme to render nicer by mrlinuxfish · Pull Request #2 · zint/zint
Change the formatting of the readme to be rendered in markdown instead of monospace plaintext. Using markdown makes the readme more readable and more professional looking.

rewrote a Python script in Rust and gained 1.4x faster in run time.

however, the improvement is coming from different languages but different implementations, e.g. larger chunks of payload in socket, skipping unnecessary wait and file IO, etc.

The kettle stopped working completely this morning so we had to run into Farmers and bought a new one. Can’t imagine a day without hot water in such a freezing weather.

Reported a water leak issue on the road to Watercare on Thursday and they said they will handle it in 5-10 working days.

And they fixed it today! On a Sunday morning! So weekends also count as working days.
